This page should have stuff for other board games at some
point, but it's just got finspan for now. So
this will probably get moved when other stuff is added.

sharks and reefs expansion
Finspan's Sharks and Reefs expansion was announced 15th April 2026 and launched 13th May 2026. It features 80 new fish cards including 5 starter fish, board overlays, coral tokens and a card tray to fit this, as well as future, expansion.
There are new shark cards which have abilities to scatter schools; and cards which 'leave food scraps' in the form of allowing you to tuck a card under any fish on your board.
There are also coral fish that reside in the daylight region of the board but may have requirements of coral being at the speific dive zones. Coral fish may also have further brown/if activated abilities that unlock with coral. Coral can be played at each dive zone using the board overlays and new coral tokens. Coral itself also offers extra points for filling a zone with coral.

playmat update
"Definitely! We’re just waiting until the second expansion, as both the first and second
expansions include additions to the playmats." — source
This is another comment about playmats for Finspan, saying that there will be additions in the
playmats for both the first and second expansions.

expansion infomation so far
Here I've gathered everything we know about future finspan expansions as of the 13th Feburary
newsletter, as well as some of ideas and theories of what symbols, game play features and themes
could be.
And just some other links, until I can put them somewhere else:
These cards were shown during the 2026
Stonemaier Games Preview
Livecast on 31 December 2025. This livecast also announced a Q2 (April to June) release
in 2026. These cards show three new symbols.
splitting school
symbol
The first symbol is a school being split into four young,
which may allow you to split up a school token back into young tokens. This might even allow you
to create four young instead of just the three used to created the school in the first place.
I would imagine the young created would have to be scattered across the board in some way, as the
young
can't stay on the same space or they would just turn back into a school again. So the new young
could be scattered wherever the player chooses or possibly just adjacent/diagonal/specific
spaces.
So within everything we've seen I think with have three different types of coral symbols: a blue
viney coral, a green branching coral and a red brain coral.
I think the different types of coral line up with the colours of the different dive sites. We see the
first card of the newsletter is a green dive site fish played in the wrong colour site. Coral might
be used to allow you to play fish in other dive sites, or if coral is growing in dive sites allow
certain fish to be played there.
As shown on the newsletter cards, coral maybe a requirement or cost to play a fish card. The black
spot/segmented coloured spot may indicate coral of any colour be used to cover the requirement.
We also see coral as a reward, maybe as a new type of token that is used/gained. The second card the
the newsletters images, we see a condition on three brain coral being in a dive site(?), a card can
be played.
theme?
With four out of six cards revealed being sharks, it's probaly safe to say sharks are a prominent
theme for this expansion. Also with the coral features/tokens/symbols, I would imagine coral/reefs
is also a theme. In the bottom right of the revealed cards with see a 'SR' symbol for the expansion,
so I think it could be that 'Shark Reef' is the name of the expansion.
As a final note, I am looking forward to a new big fish, like the card in the newsletter with the
cost of a school. As there is only the one card, the whale shark, with the cost in the base game.
Just because I think they are a lot of fun and a cool way to double the points you would otherwise
just keeping the school.
expansion two - 2027
"The plan is to incorporate this option into the back side of a rubber playmat that we’ll
sell
along with the second expansion in 2027." — source
This comment was a response to a question asking if there would be reprints of boards with the
feeder/starter fish shown with a white background or otherwise more visible so they don't vanish
into the background as much. Also mentioning the second expansion coming in 2027.
Not sure if this mayyybe suggests that a different board will be used for the second expansion (but
maybe not if the
backside of the mat is for the white background feeder fish).
